プロフィール（Profile）
インドのプラヤグラージ（旧アラーハーバード）生まれ。1986年にインド外務省に入省し、アメリカ、イギリス、南アフリカなどで外交官を務める。2009年8月から2013年7月までは、在大阪・神戸インド総領事として日本に赴任。
外交官のかたわら執筆した2005年のデビュー作『ぼくと1ルピーの神様』は世界的な大ヒットを記録。ダニー・ボイル監督による映画化作品『スラムドッグ$ミリオネア』はアカデミー賞8部門を受賞しました。
Born in Prayagraj (formerly Allahabad), India. After joining the Ministry of External Affairs of India in 1986, he served as a diplomat in countries including the United States, the United Kingdom, and South Africa. From August 2009 to July 2013, he was posted to Japan as the Consul General of India in Osaka-Kobe.
His 2005 debut novel, Q & A (published in Japan as Boku to 1-Rupee no Kamisama), written alongside his diplomatic career, became a global bestseller. Adapted into the film Slumdog Millionaire by director Danny Boyle, which won eight Academy Awards.

2010年、このインディアメーラー（第1回目）を立ち上げようと提唱した、当時の在大阪神戸インド総領事であり、映画「スラムドック＄ミリオネア」の原作者でもある、多彩な顔をもつ魅力あふれるヴィーカス・スワループ氏。現在は、作家として国際的に様々な活動をされている氏が、15周年目のインディアメーラーのために講演を行います。
In 2010, Mr. Vikas Swarup—then Consul General of India in Osaka-Kobe and the author behind the film Slumdog Millionaire—proposed launching the very first India Mela. A multi-talented and charismatic figure who now engages in various international activities as an author, he returns to deliver a special lecture for the 15th anniversary of India Mela.
