和歌山県は、2013年10月に商都ムンバイを有するマハラシュトラ州との間で観光および農産品と食品加工分野における相互経済関係の促進・拡大を目的とした覚書を締結。

2024年5月には、同州との積極的な交流の取り組みが評価され、第18回自治体国際交流表彰（総務大臣賞）を受賞。観光、行政、教育、経済、スポーツ等、多方面で交流を重ねています。　

今回、インド大好き国際課長がマハラシュトラ州との交流の取組みの他、世界遺産や名物グルメ、お祭り等、マハラシュトラ州の魅力をたっぷりご紹介します♪

In October 2013, Wakayama Prefecture signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Maharashtra State—home to India’s commercial capital, Mumbai—aiming to promote and expand mutual economic relations in tourism, agricultural products, and food processing.

In May 2024, in recognition of its active exchange initiatives with the state, Wakayama received the Minister for Internal Affairs and Communications Award at the 18th Local Government International Exchange Awards. Since then, deep cultural and economic ties have continued to grow across various fields, including tourism, administration, education, economy, and sports.

In this session, the head of Wakayama’s International Affairs Division—an avid fan of India—will share details on these exchange initiatives, alongside the rich charms of Maharashtra, including its World Heritage sites, famous local cuisine, vibrant festivals, and more!
